Nose | Palate: Coastal peat smoke, vanilla and tangy and bright citrus zest | Maritime peat, ripe orchard fruit, warm oak and a gentle, warm black pepper spice.
How it’s made: Cask Strength release uses 87% peated spirit and 13% unpeated spirit aged in 90% ex-Bourbon and 10% ex-Sherry barrels.
About the maker: Ardnamurchan Distillery, owned by independent bottler Adelphi Selection, sits on the remote Ardnamurchan Peninsula North of Isle of Mull.
Ardnamurchan Distillery officially opened on 25.07.2014, marking the start of producing what would eventually become a world-class single malt. The first spirit flowed from the stills that same year, and the inaugural single malt was bottled in September 2020. Uniquely within the industry, the distillery is powered entirely by local renewable energy: the river that supplies its cooling water also drives a hydroelectric generator, and a biomass boiler is fuelled with woodchip from nearby forests. As a result, the distillery operates with a remarkably light environmental footprint.
