Region: Kamptal | Austria

Grape: Grüner Veltliner

Farming: Organic

Method: Low Intervention

Alc: 12%

How it tastes: Finesse, elegance and precision sparkling wine as its best. Lively acidity with gentle notes of pink grapefruit, nectarine and tropical fruits.

How it’s made: 50 year old vines Grüner Veltliner, hand picked, quickly pressed gently. Spontaneous fermentation, the wine is mature for several months in a large wooden barrel made of Austrian oak before being bottled for secondary fermentation. The bottles are then stored in their 700 year-old cellar and aged for 30 months on the lees before disgorgement.

About the maker: Alwin and Stefanie’s winery dates back to the 16th century, making it one of Austria’s oldest estates. The Jurtschitsch family bought the property in 1868 and in 2010 Alwin and his wife Stefanie took over and have taken the winery from strength to strength ever since. Their first step was to convert to organic farming and place sustainability at the heart of their winemaking practice.
